Numerous folk traditions are associated with Michaelmas (St Michael's Day). During the first part of our workshop, the instructors and children discussed the significance of Michaelmas, alongside old pastoral traditions, autumn fairs, and the seasonal herding of livestock.

Following this, the girls crafted dolls out of corn cobs. They tied skirts using corn husks, made arms from bulrush, glued on hair made from colourful wool, and finally placed hats made from poppy seed heads onto the dolls' heads.

Meanwhile, the boys crafted corn-cob horses with glued bulrush and twig legs, creating the mane and tail from hemp tow.

During the activities, the roasted pumpkin was also freshly baked, so at the end of the handhandhandcrafts session, everyone—young and old alike—enjoyed a taste of this traditional autumn delicacy.
