The October children's handhandcrafts workshop of the FolkReAct project took place in Deszk on 16 October 2024, focusing on the arrival of autumn and the traditions associated with St Martin's Day.

As always, the essence of the workshop was knowledge sharing. Much to the children's delight, hands-on crafting took centre stage once again, alongside the traditional preparation of food.

First, the children learned about this special day, its history, and the life and deeds of St Martin, exploring the customs and folklore surrounding this significant event in folk tradition.

Following this, they crafted textile geese that can also be used as puppets. They stuffed the pre-sewn figures, secured them onto a wooden stick base, attached the legs and a traditional blue-dyed (kékfestő) scarf, and finally coloured in the beaks.

For the traditional culinary experience, they prepared a classic maize porridge (kukoricakása), introducing the participants to its sweet version.

The session concluded with singing and boundless joy as everyone welcomed the true arrival of the autumn season.
