The Banat embroidered headdress (Serbian: 'kapica') is a prominent piece of traditional Serbian women's costume, reflecting both marital status and social rank. Depending on its purpose, it was crafted from linen, cotton, silk, or velvet, according to the season and the occasion. The defining characteristic of this artifact group is the embossed gold embroidery. 

This involved covering cardboard-backed patterns with metallic threads, which were then anchored to the base fabric with a fine guide-thread to achieve a sculptural relief. The rich metallic ornamentation is supplemented by silk embroidery, beads, and sequins, particularly on the most magnificent bridal pieces. The motif heritage of these historical items remains a defining element of regional cultural preservation and modern textile art.
