Discover one of the most extraordinary pieces of traditional Serbian costume, the embroidered headdress from the Banat region, known as the 'kapica'! This magnificent headpiece served as more than just an accessory; it provided precise information about the wearer's marital status and social standing within the community. The materials used for its creation adapted to the occasion and the seasons: makers chose simpler linen or cotton canvas for everyday wear, elegant silk for festive moments, and heavy, ornate velvet for the winter cold. Unquestionably, the most spectacular pieces were the bridal headdresses intended for young women's weddings. The defining feature of this garment is the embossed gold embroidery, achieved through a precise artisanal process. Shapes cut from cardboard were fixed to the base with starch paste, then overlaid with metallic threads secured by a thin thread matching the fabric's colour, pulled towards the centre during stitching. 

The radiant metallic yarn is supplemented by beads, sequins, and silk threads, whose rich heritage lives on today through recreated heritage costumes and modern textile art.
