The embroidered headdress of the Banat region, known as the 'kapica', was one of the most significant identity-defining elements of Serbian women's attire, worn for both everyday and festive occasions. The ornamentation and materials of the headpiece precisely reflected the wearer's age, marital status, and social standing within the community. Whilst everyday pieces were crafted from simpler linen or cotton canvas, festive versions were tailored from elegant silk, and winter wear called for heavier velvet. Unquestionably, the bridal headdresses were the most magnificent. 

The true distinction of Banat gold embroidery lies in its sculptural, embossed technique: patterns cut from cardboard were fixed to the base fabric using wheat starch paste, then overlaid with metallic threads stitched down with a fine thread matching the backing material. Enriched with beads, sequins, and silk threads, these motifs continue to inspire modern textile art and contemporary heritage costume design today.
