The 'kapica' (embroidered headdress from the Banat region) featured in our collection is an outstanding representative of Serbian costume culture, historically documenting the wearer's marital status and social rank. Material types and the degree of ornamentation strictly followed functional purposes: textiles intended for everyday use were made of linen or cotton canvas, representative festive pieces of silk, whilst versions for the winter period were crafted from structured velvet. The highest quality is represented by the bridal headpieces. From a technological perspective, the defining attribute of this artifact group is the embossed gold embroidery. 

During execution, motifs pre-drawn on cardboard templates were applied to the carrier fabric using traditional starch paste, after which the metallic threads stretched over them were secured with a fine guide-thread matching the base material, pulled towards the centre during stitching. This process yields the characteristic relief surface of the embroidery, enriched with beads, sequins, and silk threads. These historical motifs remain influential today in contemporary textile art and reconstructed heritage costumes.
