Serbian towels (peškir) are traditional textiles that have been used for centuries both in everyday life and on special occasions. Their raw material is most frequently cotton or linen, and the characteristic needle-painted embroidery was applied for their decoration. In their motif repertoire, human depiction appears alongside floral ornamentation, taking different forms by region. They played an especially important role at weddings and other family events, where they were used as gifts or decorations.
