Embroidered wall hangings were popular decorative elements in Banat homes, especially in kitchens, where they protected the walls from dirt while fulfilling an aesthetic and message-conveying role. Wall hangings with Serbian inscriptions often contained moral guidance, wisdom, or humorous life lessons that reflected the mindset of the house's inhabitants. Texts praising family happiness, love, and domesticity were common. The wall hangings were hand-embroidered, often with red or blue cotton thread on white linen. The inscriptions were complemented by folk motifs, flower wreaths, and domestic scenes. They were important not only for their aesthetic value but also because they reflected the women's dexterity and diligence.
