Banat value recovery

Embroidered wall hanging with birds

Embroidered wall hangings played a central role in the Banat interior, mainly in protecting and decorating kitchen wall surfaces. The Serbian-language inscriptions conveyed the mindset and life philosophy of the house's inhabitants, often in a humorous form, or praising family happiness and domesticity. The needleworks were traditionally crafted on white linen using red or blue cotton thread. The typical folk motifs, floral elements, and domestic scenes not only decorated but also represented the diligence and skill of the creating women.
