Embroidered wall hanging
A traditional Banat kitchen wall hanging which, besides keeping the walls clean, also conveyed aesthetic and moral messages. The textiles with Serbian inscriptions typically contained family life lessons, moral guidance, or humorous rhymes, highlighting the importance of love and domesticity. They were made on a white linen base by hand, mostly with blue or red cotton yarn. The textual parts are complemented by folk motifs, flower wreaths, and kitchen life scenes, serving as evidence of the making woman's dexterity and diligence.
