Embroidered wall hanging
Embroidered wall hangings are distinctive pieces of the kitchen material culture of the Banat region, which, besides functional wall protection, also possessed narrative content. The versions with Serbian inscriptions recorded moral guidelines, proverbs, or humorous reflections, emphasizing family cohesion and domestic patterns. Regarding technical execution, they are characterised by hand embroidery on a white linen base with red or blue cotton yarn. The floral ornamentation and figural genre scenes appearing alongside the inscriptions represented the technical training and textile-crafting diligence of the making women.
