Formerly, in Banat kitchens, walls were protected from stains with embroidered wall hangings, but these objects were simultaneously ornaments of the flat. The Serbian-language inscriptions revealed how the house's inhabitants thought: we can often read cheerful life wisdom, family advice, or texts praising love on them. The wall hangings were embroidered on white linen by hand, mostly with simple red or blue cotton thread. Around the texts, they sewed floral patterns and kitchen scenes, all of which showed how industrious and clever-handed the house's mistress was.
